Earlier this month, Kristi and I headed up to LA to pick out new fabulous fabrics for Sittin’ Pretty Still’s meditation cushions and to be a part of Gabby Bernstein’s book launch.
We arrived in the fashion district and immediately were overwhelmed. There were tons of fabric stores and we didn’t have a plan on where to start. As we drove in, paid $5 to park and got out of the car, it was clear this wasn’t going to be easy. Kristi was wearing flips flops noticed “It smells bad here” when walking down busy 9th street.
We stepped into many stores, most with low quality fabrics, haggling sale associates and some creepy men. Overwhelmed and disoriented, we did what anyone does when in a foreign place, go to Starbucks. After a much needed bathroom break and iced passion tea, we started out on our journey again.
Kristi turned around and spotted a mother and daughter leaving happily with fabrics. We did the old fashioned thing and asked them, “where’s the best places to go?.” After getting the scoop, we joyfully speed walked to this clean fabric store and spent about 2 hours reviewing their fantastic selections.
Later that day, we went to Gabby’s book launch in Hollywood. Gabby shared a big lesson with us... “STOP getting in your own way.” Yes we have plans, outlines, projections, goals and a vision of our outcome, but most of the time it will happen the way it’s suppose to happen.
Gabby’s advice to everyone was “when things aren't working out as planned... surrender. When you think you’ve surrendered, surrender some more.”
This lesson hit me like a ton of bricks. I often find myself clinging to a specific vision that I want to create with Sittin’ Pretty Still. This was a true wake up call to enjoy the process, get out of my own way and let the results happen organically.
Where in your life can you surrender some more? Claim it to the universe & comment because we’d love to hear how we can support you.
