Do you remember that feeling when the recess bell rang at school and everyone shot out the door to run and play? Or maybe the last day of school before summer vacation when you were watching the clock and knew there were only a few minutes left between you and a LONG break. It has been statistically proven that giving yourself a break, whether big or small, can significantly increase your happiness, productivity and decrease your risk of burnout.
We live in a culture that being "busy" is the norm. We fill our schedules to the max and if we have a second to breath it can easily be filled with swipes and scrolls through social media. This folks is a recipe for exhaustion, burnout and feeling a sense of overwhelm.
I was so fortunate to recently attend a yoga anatomy intensive with the incredible yoga teacher Judith Lasater. She is the founder of yoga journal magazine and above all she is a very good hearted person. I took away so much from this course and the one thing she really encouraged is the importance of taking breaks and doing restorative yoga with meditation everyday. Taking even a 15 min break to relax and do NOTHING can create a physiological and psychological response in the body. Taking breaks can help you reset your nervous system which can help you sleep better, refocus and also increases productivity.
I made a video for you with a very nourishing restorative yoga pose that Judith taught me with a deeply relaxing guided meditation. Please enjoy and give yourself a "recess" whenever you need it!
